5 Februarie 2014 — Black Sea Seeds is a young and dynamic company that produces organic seeds in the Republic of Moldova for international clients. We do this at our own farm, but also in co-operation with local farmers. Our product is more than seeds, it is high quality certified seeds delivered under good relationships with our customers and producers. Trust, good quality in every aspect of the work and pleasant but professional communication are important to us.

The foundation for the company is its corporate social responsibility, which we bring to life in promoting organic agriculture, in our anti-corruption policy, in helping farmers to set up their businesses and in the way we work with our employees. These things are relatively new in Moldova, and we meet enthusiastic responses, but also resistance to unknown things, so awareness raising is also part of our work.

The job

Black Sea Seeds is looking for a manager that at the same time picks up tasks of the administrator, the Moldovan equivalent of director. The company is at the end of the pioneering stage, which means that you will be managing partly existing structures and partly new developments. On the short term we expect to buy a new farm location where new farm buildings need to be constructed, which will be your direct responsibility.

It is important that you are able to bring Moldovan and western cultures together, to bring out the best in your team in order to meet the quality standards that our clients deserve. Our founders are Dutch and you will communicate a lot with them about the company, you will need to interpret and connect both cultures. The team strives to work respectfully and in a motivating way with local farmers, and you will encourage and support them in this task.

We have a large diversity of activities and of people we work with. It has proven that it is important that the manager is able to keep the overview in this very dynamic environment and is able to support the team in keeping their focus and understanding their specific role within Black Sea Seeds.

You will be based in Chisinau first, and there is a genuine chance that your office moves within 1-2 years to the district/village level.

•    Education: at least a bachelor in agriculture (related) studies
•    1-4 years of experience in management of a large team or company
•    Ready to work mostly in the countryside of Moldova
•    Basic knowledge of working in rural areas of a country in transition
•    Languages: English fluent, Romanian fluent, Russian is an asset.
•    Willingness to commit for at least three years
